2022.2.4.7Description
This is a hound-handle pitcher created in East Liverpool, Ohio, circa 1965. An off-white glaze covers the upper portion and the hound handle. The pitcher's body shows a doe and a buck grazing in a forest with flowers. On the bottom of the pitcher, an impressed mark reads: "Reproduction Harker Rockingham/Mfg 1848/U.S.A."
This pitcher is a reproduction of the Harker, Taylor & Company's (1847 to 1850). It was advertised as an authentic reproduction of the original pitcher; however, it was not. Besides adding an off-white glaze over the hound and the vessel's upper portion, the original violent scenes on the pitcher's sides of a boar and stag hunt were replaced to show stags and doe grazing in a peaceful forest.Location
