Description

A shoe last and stand like this one would be part of a cobbler's tool chest in the 1800s. The foot-shaped portion is called a last, and the upright section was the stand. There are interchangeable, different sized lasts depending on the sizes of the shoes to be repaired. A straight last indicates it was not made as either a right or left foot, but could accommodate either shoe. Iron shoe lasts could stand up to the wear and tear of repairing shoes. (Cobblers used these black iron shoe form and stands while making shoe repairs. This stand is Eureka brand. Eureka is an iron casting company located in Tennessee that has been around since 1902.)
