Description

Canning jars figured prominently in kitchens during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This glass Mason canning jar has a screw-top metal lid and a wood-handled metal canning lifter. During processing, the lifter was used to place jars in and out of the boiling water. Although this jar is marked 'Mason's Patent Nov. 30th 1858,' it could be from as late as the early 1920s.
