Black and white photograph showing the masonry and block wall construction of the foundation of the original Lake Hope Dining Lodge. This lodge was destroyed during a fire in 2006.
This is a black and white print from the dining lodge construction in the 1930s. The CCC, or Civilian Conservation Corps, was a New Deal Program to provide unemployed young men with a job, a place to live, and classes in their off-hours, all in a military-style organization. They worked in environmental restoration and improvements at public lands across the United States, and there were over thirty CCC camps in Ohio during the course of the program. Construction by the CCC often followed guidelines set down by the United States Forestry Service Recreation Handbook.Photograph Details
