Although an ancient tool, the industrial revolution and mass production made hoes more affordable. This grub hoe, also called a chopping, digging, ring, eye, field, or peasant hoe, has a 3 foot long wooden handle and a wide metal blade. Grubbing hoes were introduced to help with heavier work than ordinary hoes could handle. Often used to cut out weeds or cut into roots close to the surface, grub hoes could be used to clear weeds from large areas of land with fewer workers.Location
