Description

The spike has been broken off of this Peavy Log Hook. Loggers use this tool to hook and roll the logs when moving or loading them onto trucks and trains. This tool was invented in the 1850s by blacksmith Joseph Peavey and is still in use today. The peavey was meant to be a refinement of the cant hook, which is a similar tool, but has a blunt end instead of the spike on the end. Many lumberjacks use both the terms peavey and cant hook interchangeably, as well as the tools themselves.
