Context

Rosalba Zuanna Carriera was a Venetian Rococco painter born in 1673. She began as a pattern maker for her mother's lace-making business. Carriera first made her name as a painter of miniature portraits but eventually developed an innovative pastel technique that made her a popular portraitist with court elites across 18th century Europe. She died in Venice in 1757. - Research and text by Thomas Bachelder of the Malabar Farm Foundation
