Description

Louis Bromfield received this certificate recognizing him as a naturalized citizen of the Empire of Texas in 1949. It was awarded to him by the Houston Advertising Club which was started in 1911. It later became the American Advertising Federation-Houston. While this certificate names the Empire of Texas, that nation does not exist. Rather, it was the Republic of Texas which existed for a brief period in the nineteenth century. From 1836 until 1845, Texas stood alone, as part of neither Mexico nor the United States. However, they became the 28th state after extended battle with Mexico as well as people Indigenous to the area.
