Carved from solid balsa wood in the late 1940s for Herter's Sporting Goods Company of Waseca, Minnesota, this Canvasback decoy was used in Middle Harbor, Ohio into the 1960s. Herter's produced thousands of balsa wood decoys, as that wood is extremely lightweight compared to others, lessening the weight a hunter would have to carry into and out of the field.Location
