Description

This oil painting depicts a lake scene with a hunting dog chasing a raccoon up a tree for a nearby hunter. There is a hazy sunset in the background over a lake. The Fort Loramie Historical Society donated this painting.

Context

This painting was part of a wall in a cottage on Filburns Island in McLean Township, Ohio. The man who owned the cottage either painted it himself or hired an artist to paint pictures on all of his walls. When the building was torn down, the only way to save the paintings was by cutting them out of the wall. The holes in the middle of the painting are from where the nails were holding the wallboard to the studs.
