Description

EBER McDOWELL Died Feb. 2. 1867 Aged 93y. 11m. 6ds. _________________ Eber McDowell came to live in Plain City in 1818. He had been a soldier in the war of 1812. He was with his regiment at the Battle of Lake Erie guarding the approach and landing of the British forces on the American shore. It was here he witnessed Commodore Perry’s victory in this hard-fought encounter. Eber was more than ready to rejoin the battlefield in the Southern rebellion. Eber McDowell married Nancy Titcomb and was now ready to settle down. Life was difficult for many of the new settlers and Eber suffered many of the same hardships as his neighbors. He made a two-day wagon trip, selling 200 bushels of corn for 10 cents a bushel, along with his cattle in order to make the last payment on his home. Eber McDowell lived to be ninety-six years of age. His only living son, Samuel McDowell becomes the owner of his father’s property at this time. _________________ https://archive.org/details/historyofmadison00brow/page/612/mode/2up?q=eber https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/19323846/eber-mcdowell
