A man in a rowboat crosses in front of Muskingum River's Lock #6 in Stockport. In the photograph's background, the steamboat T. M. Bayne enters the lock to avoid the low head dam. Built in 1890 at Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the T. M. Bayne was a packet boat that hauled mail, cargo, and people. This vessel operated along two circuits during its working life: from Steubenville, Ohio to Wheeling, West Virginia and between Zanesville and McConnelsville. The steamboat sank near Steubenville in 1904 after being crushed by ice from the frozen Ohio River.
