Name/Title

Ohio's Fire Towers (ca. 2016)

Description

Embroidered oval patch measuring 2.75-inch by 4-inch. This patch features The Armintrout Fire Tower and Smokey Bear at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. A banner in front of Smokey reads "Prevent Wildfires!" in red text as two visitors look on. Armintrout Fire Tower was one of 39 towers constructed between 1924 and 1970 to spot blazes on Ohio lands. In 2016, ODNR relocated the tower from Pike County, Ohio, to the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Crews dismantled the tower, shortened it from 80 feet to 60 feet (from the ground to the bottom of the cab), and reassembled it at the Natural Resources Park.
