Description

This is a perforated brown leather crescent-shaped saddle bag with a long strap. A saddle bag was tied or strapped to the saddle of a horse or hung about a person's shoulder and used to carry necessary items on a journey. The perforations are shaped in a diamond and heart pattern on the outside flap. Was this perhaps the symbol or brand for a particular ranch or family? Did the buyer add the perforations to personalize the saddle bag, or was it bought this way? Either way, well-aged, with one strap broken, this saddle bag was well-used by its owner, as it appears to have been mended more than once.
