Description

Cincinnati is considered to be the site of the first professional baseball game in May 1869. Cincinnati was also home to a manufacturer of baseball gloves, balls, and other sporting goods. GoldSmith, or P. Goldsmith, was created by Philip Goldsmith, an Austrian immigrant, in 1875. This child-sized fielder's glove, made of fabric and leather with a metal grommet, dates to around 1890.

Used in baseball in any defensive position other than catcher and first base.
