This map of France was designed and drawn in 1929 by Harold H. Brown.

Context

Harold H. Brown was a painter, printmaker, illustrator, museum director, author, and teacher born in Malden, Massachusetts, in 1869. After graduating from the Massachusetts Normal Art School, he studied in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Academie Julian. In 1897, he moved to Chicago and Indianapolis, where he was director of the John Heron Institute from 1913 to 1921. In 1923, he moved to Massachusetts, where he lived for the remainder of his life, dying there in 1932 at 63. - Adapted from research and text by Thomas Bachelder of the Malabar Farm Foundation
