This framed photograph of Francis Appleton Wood stands in Mary Bromfield's bedroom. Francis was Mary's younger brother, born in 1894, just two years after Mary. He graduated from Columbia College in 1916 before joining the armed forces. He was killed September 13, 1918 when his plane was shot down in France. He is buried at Saint Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial.
