Description

The American Black Duck has a wide range in the United States, and they are closely related to the Mallard. Jack Rider of Port Clinton, Ohio carved decoys in the mid-twentieth century. A black duck decoy like this one would have the body carved from one piece of wood, and the head carved separately and attached later because the grain lines on the wood would cause a chipped bill if the bird was made from a single section.
