Description

A Model # 2484, Filler #24-F American Thermal Bottle Company Thermos from the mid-1950s, this quart thermos includes the red cap. However, the cork stopper is missing. This vacuum flask thermos works through a glass insert which consists of a glass bottle inside another glass bottle with the air between them removed. The partial vacuum created allows the temperature to be maintained. The metal casing was added to the design in 1903.

Context

Sir James Dewar created the vacuum flask technology in 1892. William B. Walker brought the technology to America and opened a manufacturing plant in Brooklyn, New York, in 1907. In 1953, Thermos produced the first metal lunchboxes with lithographs. They featured Roy Rogers. By the mid-1950s, the brand was a household name.
