Description

In the 1940s and 1950s, Malabar Farm produced jams and jellies to sell alongside the fruits and vegetables that were sold in the summer months. In "The Planter of Modern Life," Stephen Heyman comments on the processing of jams and jellies as they appeared in Bromfield's diaries from 1941-1953. He also notes that Ellen Bromfield and her husband Carson Geld took over the jams and jellies in 1952. The box pictured here contained twelve 10 ounce jars of jam and jelly. With the box, Malabar Farm shows a copy of an advertisement for the jams. It reads: For a distinctive, different, purposeful Merry Christmas for your customers, employees, friends. A beautiful box of top quality jams, jellies, and preserves...from LOUIS BROMFIELD'S famed Malabar Farm...12 ten-ounce jars, each one different and better than the other...in each box a booklet written by Mr. Bromfield, telling the story of Malabar Farm. Mailed anywhere in the USA with your cards. $7.50 per box...or $6.05 f.o.b. Lucas, Ohio. The ad provides an address and phone number for more information for William R. Beattie in Dallas, Texas or Homer A. Miller in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
