This is a Clark Carriage Heater, No 7D, a popular style of carriage heater used in the early 20th century. In cold weather, buggy drivers and riders would use these buggy foot warmers under their feet during travel. Charcoal briquettes or carbon fuel bricks were used in the sliding drawer. They most likely used Clark Coal which was sold from the same company, the Sterk MFG Co. established by Stewart and Clark in 1905.Location
