A white glazed plaster of Paris vessel used as a set decoration for an early 1920's play 'Midsummer Night's Dream'. The natural forms vessel is of leaves and mushrooms. The glaze is cracked. According to legend, this vessel and others similar to it in the Dining Room at the Big House were originally commissioned for the New York City play's set decoration. Louis Bromfield allegedly wrote mediocre review and the play folded soon after. Afterward, the play's backers gave him these pieces. A set of sconces on the walls of the Dining Room are of the same style. The artist is unknown.Location
