Context

Rex was Louis Bromfield's first boxer. Rex arrived at the Bromfield home in France as the gift of a family friend. The entrance of Rex into Bromfield's life began a love affair with boxers that lasted the remainder of Bromfield's life. The second boxer to become a member of the Bromfield household was a female named Regina. She also was a gift, arriving as a pup in 1938, just as the Bromfield family was leaving France on a journey that would soon result in the establishment of Malabar Farm. According to Louis Bromfield in his book, Animals and Other People (1955, "Rex and Regina became the founders of a long line of boxers at Malabar. Three of their sons – Prince, Baby, and Smoky – lived there until they died. Their brothers and sisters are scattered all over the country..." - Research and text by Thomas Bachelder of the Malabar Farm Foundation
