Dr. Farnsworth earned a bachelors in geology (1952), masters in Education (1952), and a Ph.D. in Education (1981) from The Ohio State University. She was employed with the Ohio Geological Survey from 1955 to 1963, during that time she published Information Circular 21: Geological investigations in Ohioand Educational Leaflet 5: About Ohio rocks and minerals.
After her time with the Survey, Carolyn went on to become a teacher in the Upper Arlington School District in Columbus, Ohio.Photograph Details

In 1982 Carolyn received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching, when receiving this award Carolyn was described by James Buffer, Associate Dean of Research and Development at The Ohio State University College of Education as "She's a dedicated teacher. With her Ph.D. she could easily get a position at a university or in industry, but she has appreciation and dedication to her students. She brings teaching alive.
