Context

In 1946, Louis Bromfield was awarded the Ohioana Career Award. This award has been presented annually since 1942 to "A native Ohioan whose meritorious career has added luster and distinction to the heritage of our state and nation." The Ohioana Library was founded in 1929 by Martha Kinney Cooper (1874-1964), wife of Ohio Governor Myers L. Cooper. The library's mission is to collect, preserve, and promote the written work of Ohio writers, artists, and musicians. Today the library collection contains more than 45,000 books, 10,000 pieces of sheet music, and 20,000 biographical files on Ohio writers, artists, and musicians. - Research and text by Thomas Bachelder of the Malabar Farm Foundation
