WOGS_013Description
Jean Simmons Brown was a geologist and editor at the Survey from January 1966–September 1978. Jean grew up in Chicago, and received her BS, MS, and ABD in geology from the University of Chicago.
Jean was very detail oriented, which was a terrific asset since it was during this time the Survey began publishing many large, color geologic maps.
During the 1960s, Jean edited the annual guidebooks for the Ohio Geological Society. In addition, she was the Editing and Registration Chair for the first Eastern Section AAPG Annual Meeting in 1972. Because of her service to the Society as editor and the public assistance she provided during the Morrow County oil boom, Jean was awarded Honorary Membership by the Ohio Geological Society in 1972.
In the mid-1970s, one of her main objectives at the Survey was to publish Bulletin 65: Ohio An American Heartland. Because of her efforts, this “geography of Ohio” was published in 1975. It is now out of print.Photograph Details
