Description

Americans relied on radio broadcasts for a significant amount of their entertainment in the early and mid-twentieth century. By 1940, almost 90% of American households had a radio. Air Castle brand radios were sold by Spiegel. A Chicago based mail-order company, Spiegel began in 1905. They competed with Sears, Roebuck, & Company's and Montgomery Wards' catalog businesses. After purchasing Eddie Bauer, the company peaked in the 1990s, which split off from the parent company in 2004. Spiegel closed in 2019.
