Description

Staplers are a fairly new invention, if the much longer history of paper use is taken into consideration. Traced to France, the original stapler is said to have been invented for King Louis XV (1714-1774) who was a patron of artists and engineers. In the United States, Novelty Manufacturing Company patented a more modern stapler in 1866. This twentieth century stapler is a Pilot Model No. 402 produced by the ACE Fastener Corporation in Chicago, Illinois. The Pilot Model No. 102 began production in 1934, and the 402 began in 1936. The stapler has the following engraved on it: Pilot, ACE Fastener Corp, Chicago, Ill, Model No. 402, use only Pilot No. 400 staples, Patent 2033018, 2056480, 2066157, 2103551, 2107169, 2112941
