Description

The Renault FT was mass produced in 1917 and 1918. It was the first light tank with the gun mounted on a fully moveable turret, rather than a single side mount. The tank was used by the French and Allied forces, including Americans who produced the tank themselves when the French manufacturers could not keep up with demand. The plaque reads: Char-Renault-F.T. 17 Encrier-Souvenir 1918 Offert a Leon et Christian Lucas (pere et fils) par Louis Bromfield Sonlis 1939 (France) Don de ChristianLUCAS (15 08 2018) [The tank is an ink well] Translation: Inkwell Souvenir 1918 Offered to Leon and Christian Lucas (son and father) by Louis Bromfield, Sonlis 1939 (France) gift of Christian Lucas (08-15-2018)
