Description

The 1987 Master Angler pin features a channel catfish. The catfish has grey scales with white spots on the belly and by the gills. The words Fish Ohio and Master Angler are in gold around the border. The year is in gold between the fish and Master Angler.

Use

The Master Angler category is for anglers who catch four different Fish Ohio-qualifying species in a single year.

Context

The Fish Ohio program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish. Since 1976, more than 400,000 anglers have been recognized for their catches. The Ohio Division of Wildlife took over the program's management in 1980. Each angler with a qualifying catch receives a collectible Fish Ohio lapel pin. Each year’s pin has a different species of fish on it, along with the year, so the pin that the angler receives won’t necessarily have the same fish on it as the qualifying fish caught. Fish must be taken by legal angling and not from pay lakes.
