Station MarkDescription
Surveyors used this tan ceramic pyramid as a station mark to indicate a point in the Coast and Geodetic survey in 1886. It is inscribed with the letters U-S-G-S which stands for the United States Geologic Survey. This pyramid marked the Peach Mount Station in Adams County, Ohio.
Crews working on a transcontinental survey built a tower to have a line of sight with other station marks' towers. After crews completed surveying calculations and documented the location information, this pyramid was buried almost three feet underground and marked with a concrete-filled drainage tile on top.Collection
