Description

Pair of ceramic chickens: a rooster and a hen. Chickens are on white bases with what appears to be hand-painted red, blue, black, and gold accents. The inscription 'JAPAN' is on the bottom of both. Mary Appleton Bromfield, Louis Bromfield's wife, enjoyed collecting figures of chickens, and many of them decorated the Big House at Malabar Farm.
