Description

These assorted tools used in blacksmithing include farrier tongs, pincers, nippers, horseshoes, and hoof parers, just to name a few.

Context

The blacksmith was essential to area farmers who needed iron tools and hardware made or repaired for their building and farming needs. Sometimes the village blacksmith also worked as a farrier, producing shoes for horses and replacing them as needed. However, some people specialized only as farriers, especially after industrialization and improved transportation for manufactured goods.
