Description

Iron Ore samples, which were found locally. Iron ore is any rock or mineral from which metallic iron can be extracted and are usually rich in iron oxides. Iron is smelted to become pig iron, which is used in the manufacture of steel.

Context

This iron ore was donated to Hope School by Steve Blauser of Wheelabout Road about 1 1/2 miles south of Hope School at the mouth of Green Hollow. This is part of the original Pinney property purchased by David A. Pinney about 1824. This property has been in the Pinney family until about 1970, when it was purchased by Mr. Blauser. This ore has been washed in the stream known as Dawson's Run for many years. Mr. Blauser hopes this will be of interest to the public.
