Description

The 2001 Fish Ohio pin features a hybrid striped bass. The bass extends beyond the edge of the circle of the pin. It is enameled in grey green scales and fins. The background is a medium blue, and the words Fish Ohio are in silver above the bass with the date below the fish. This year the Fish Ohio pin is made in a larger size than in the years prior to 2000. This larger size has carried on up to the current year (2022).

Context

The Fish Ohio program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish. Since 1976, more than 400,000 anglers have been recognized for their catches. The Ohio Division of Wildlife took over the program's management in 1980. Each angler with a qualifying catch receives a collectible Fish Ohio lapel pin. Each year’s pin has a different species of fish on it, along with the year, so the pin that the angler receives won’t necessarily have the same fish on it as the qualifying fish caught. Fish must be taken by legal angling and not from pay lakes.
