Fish Ohio Pin (2002)Entry/Object ID
2022.4.00.I1Description
The 2002 Fish Ohio pin features a saugeye. On a dark green enameled background, the fish is mainly a dull green with some areas of darker brown green. Fish Ohio is in silver above the saugeye and the date is below the fish.
The saugeye is a hybrid fish created by breeding sauger and walleye. They occasionally occur naturally in areas where both fish are found, but mostly they are bred as stock fish.Context
The Fish Ohio program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish. Since 1976, more than 400,000 anglers have been recognized for their catches. The Ohio Division of Wildlife took over the program's management in 1980.
Each angler with a qualifying catch receives a collectible Fish Ohio lapel pin. Each year’s pin has a different species of fish on it, along with the year, so the pin that the angler receives won’t necessarily have the same fish on it as the qualifying fish caught. Fish must be taken by legal angling and not from pay lakes.
