Master Angler Pin (2002)Entry/Object ID
2022.4.00.I2Description
The 2002 Master Angler pin features a saugeye. The saugeye is enameled in brown green with darker brown spots on a blue black background. Fish Ohio is in gold above the fish and Master Angler 2002 below it.
The saugeye is a hybrid fish created by breeding sauger and walleye. They occasionally occur naturally in areas where both fish are found, but mostly they are bred as stock fish.Use
The Master Angler category is for anglers who catch four different Fish Ohio-qualifying species in a single year.Context
The Fish Ohio program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish. Since 1976, more than 400,000 anglers have been recognized for their catches. The Ohio Division of Wildlife took over the program's management in 1980.
Each angler with a qualifying catch receives a collectible Fish Ohio lapel pin. Each year’s pin has a different species of fish on it, along with the year, so the pin that the angler receives won’t necessarily have the same fish on it as the qualifying fish caught. Fish must be taken by legal angling and not from pay lakes.
