Master Angler Pin (2007)Entry/Object ID
2022.4.00.J2Description
The 2007 Master Angler pin features a largemouth bass. The placement of the bass differs from earlier pins. With the open mouth toward the top and larger than the rest of the body, and the tail bent behind the fish, the bass has more depth than the previous, flatter fish. The bass is enameled in shades of green, with a lighter belly and mouth. Additionally, the visible eye is yellow, and there is a red accent on the gills. The bass on this pin is darker than the Fish Ohio counterpart, and the background is black. The date, Fish Ohio, and the words Master Angler are enameled in gold below the bass.Use
The Master Angler category is for anglers who catch four different Fish Ohio-qualifying species in a single year.Context
The Fish Ohio program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish. Since 1976, more than 400,000 anglers have been recognized for their catches. The Ohio Division of Wildlife took over the program's management in 1980.
Each angler with a qualifying catch receives a collectible Fish Ohio lapel pin. Each year’s pin has a different species of fish on it, along with the year, so the pin that the angler receives won’t necessarily have the same fish on it as the qualifying fish caught. Fish must be taken by legal angling and not from pay lakes.
