Description

The 2008 Master Angler pin features a sauger. The fish is enameled in shades of green-brown with a light belly. The eye of the sauger is enameled with a clear pupil and iris. As with the 2007 pin featuring the largemouth bass, the sauger is positioned in a way to give the fish more depth. The head of the sauger is at the bottom of the circular pin, with some of the body and bottom fins extending over the edge. Fish Ohio and the date are enameled in gold along the top edge of the pin with the words Master Angler beneath. The background is black.

Use

The Master Angler category is for anglers who catch four different Fish Ohio-qualifying species in a single year.

Context

The Fish Ohio program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish. Since 1976, more than 400,000 anglers have been recognized for their catches. The Ohio Division of Wildlife took over the program's management in 1980. Each angler with a qualifying catch receives a collectible Fish Ohio lapel pin. Each year’s pin has a different species of fish on it, along with the year, so the pin that the angler receives won’t necessarily have the same fish on it as the qualifying fish caught. Fish must be taken by legal angling and not from pay lakes.
