Description

These boat navigation lights were likely used in the mid-20th century. Lights are needed on a boat to indicate to other vessels which direction a boat is facing and to avoid a shipwreck. The set includes a red and green light. The red light (shown here) will be on the port (left) side and the green on the starboard (right). A white light should be placed at the stern of the boat. In 1838, the United States passed an act requiring steamboats running between sunset and sunrise to carry one or more signal lights; color, visibility, and location were not yet specified.
