Description

This button hook was manufactured in Auburn, Indiana for Beidler's Shoes, established in 1881. Button hooks were frequently in use during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Button boots that were produced during this time were extremely difficult to button and the button hook became an essential tool for putting those boots on or for assisting in the buttoning of any difficult buttons in a person's wardrobe. To use a button hook, the prong is inserted through the buttonhole and the hook positioned around the bottom of the button. A swift tug and twist and the button was pulled easily into place.
