Johnson & Johnson was the first company to mass produce sterile cotton along with a variety of other sterile medical supplies. They chose not to patent this product so it would be widely available to hospitals, doctors, and patients.
Johnson & Johnson has used the Red Cross symbol since 1887, but they note on the box that, "This product has no connection whatever to the American National Red Cross."Location
