Description

This is a Stellar child's microscope with a magnifying capability of 150x, 300x, and 600x. This type of microscope was handcrafted in the mid 20th century. It comes in a wooden carrying case with slides and a latch to keep it closed when transporting and storing. The invention of the microscope dates to circa 1590 by a Dutch eyeglass maker named Zacharias Janssen and his father Hans. Scientific toys for children began to be popular in the late nineteenth century, and those toys reached their height in the first half of the twentieth century. The AC Gilbert company produced a variety of scientific toys, including a microscope set beginning in the 1930s.
