Description

These are fossils of the Columbus Limestone and were found on Kelleys Island and are on display in the State Park's main office. These fossils, beginning with the top slightly left fossil, have been identified as a Colonial rugose “finger” coral Eridaphyllum, a solitary rugose “horn” coral, a fossiliferous rock containing a trilobite among other organisms, another colonial rugose “finger “coral, Eridophyllum, a Spiniplatyceras gastropod and a bivalve fossil.

Context

Columbus Limestone was formed in a clear, shallow, tropical sea that covered Ohio during the Devonian Period, about 360 - 420 million years ago and is densely populated with fossils of the marine animals living during that time.
