Clark L. Scheerens at his desk in Building B at the Fountain Square Campus. Clark worked in the Regional Geology Section of the Ohio Geological Survey from 1979 through 1988 doing coal resource and reserve research. He responded to public information resquests related to coal and Ohio geology topics when not in the field. The image was taken in 1987.
The Ohio Geological Survey's main office was located at Fountain Square on Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229 from May 1973 to the present. The Geological Survey's offices were on the first and second floors of Building B from May 1973 until a move to the first and second floors of Building C in January 2005.
From Clark L. Scheerens in an e-mail to Lisa Long dated 15 July 2016: I was with the Geological Survey from 1979 through part of 1988. The picture shows me at my office desk. Around mid-year I transferred to the Division of Oil and Gas (retired from Oil & Gas in 2006).
While at the Survey, I did primarily coal resource and reserve investigations. The first couple of projects involved assessing the original and remaining reserves of the Sharon (No. 1) coal and the Quakertown (No. 2) coal in southeastern Ohio. I also planned and managed a deep coal resource core drilling project in Belmont County, during which I was present on-site most of the time to assist in the drilling operations and log the core as it was drilled and boxed. The Survey owned and operated our own Mobile drilling rig, which was used on these projects.
While in the office during that time period I responded to a wide variety of coal and non-coal related information requests from citizens and other governmental agencies.
