Unit lithology in this area is Ohio Shale overlain by Bedford Shale and Berea Sandstone. Bedrock is from the Devonian Geologic Period. Collection of specimens in the field is part of the work of the Subsurface Geology Section of the Ohio Geological Survey. The photograph was taken circa 1978.
