Description

James A. Brown working with peelcoat. Peelcoat is a clear carrier sheet with a reddish colored cellophane top. After the cartographer finished scribing the contact lines on the scribecoat, he would use the vacuum frame to expose/burn the lines onto a peelcoat. The process involves light exposure and a chemical process afterward to etch out the lines. Jim is in the process of peeling away the red cellophane in areas where color or patterns will appear on the map. Jim was a cartographer in the Publications Section of the Ohio Geological Survey. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological Survey's main office was located at 1207 Grandview Avenue, Grandview Heights, Ohio 43212 from 1962 through May 1973. The Image was taken in 1971. This slide image included in the USGS National Digital Catalog for NGGDPP Grant G15AP00115 in FY2015.
