John H. Melvin was Ohio State Geologist from 1947 to 1957. Ralph J. Bernhagen was Ohio State Geologist from 1957 to 1968. This area has shale, siltstone, sandstone and conglomerate lithologies. Bedrock is from the Mississippian Geologic Period. The photograph was taken during Stop 2 of the nineteenth annual Ohio Intercollegiate Field Trip on October 12, 1968.
