A view of the broken slabs and boulders of Black Hand Sandstone of the Cuyahoga Formation at the base of Broken Rock Falls in the Old Man's Cave section of Hocking Hills State Park, Hocking County, Ohio. Below Old Man's Cave, about a 1/2 mile above the Lower Falls, a small creek enters the gorge from a narrow slot called Broken Rock Falls. The large piles of boulders that have accumulated beneath the falls are an example of the forces that affected the development of the Old Man's Cave gorge area. Bedrock is from the Mississippian Geologic Period. The photograph was taken Michael C. Hansen in June 1973.
