A shear wave analysis study done by the Indiana Geological Survey. The study was to profile seismic shear velocity along the vertical extent of water observation wells for an earthquake susceptibility profile to determine liquification potential in the area studied. The seismic shear was measured at water observation wells around Ohio. The water observation wells had logs of glacial material sediment, which made them particularly good locations for the study. The water observation well location pictured is at the Dayton Well Field in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. The image was made by Michael C. Hansen in 1997.
REVIEW
From an e-mail exchange between Michael C. Hansen and Lisa F. Long on 9 August 2016: Hi Lisa, It was part of the Indiana Survey project to asses earthquake risk and western Ohio was included because of the Anna seismic zone in western OH. The fellow with glasses and the tan T-shirt is Don Eggert with the Indiana Survey. The remainder of the people were with Indiana but I don’t know their names. This was part of a project the IN Survey was doing to determine shear wave velocities in glacial materials and they invited me to observe the Ohio locations. They did a number in Indiana as well. This is before the Ohio Survey began work of this type. The locations coincided with nearby water wells that had good logs of the sediments.--Mike
